With over 15 yrs experience in the beauty business I have come across many different techniques and forms of waxing . It is one of the most common treatments in the beauty industry and the some stage most people will/have tried this technique of hair removal!
I qualified as a beauty therapist in 2001 with ITEC and CIBTAC qualifications and received distinctions in both exam boards. While I loved the beauty industry and doing all the different treatments I soon realised that waxing was my favourite treatment to do and it didn’t feel like work to me! So in 2005 I decided to further my career and concentrate on a specialised waxing course. Specialised waxing concentrates on bikini waxing such as Californian, Brazilian and Hollywood waxing. When doing this course you had to have a minimum of 2 years waxing experience but in my opinion the more waxing practice you have behind you the better as its a very intense course. Specialised waxing is not for everyone, you have to be a confident and reassuring type of person to help your client relax and enjoy the experience and more importantly enjoy the results of the wax so she loves it and keeps it up every 4-6 weeks.
The trick in my opinion is if you love having your waxing done and want to keep it up you have to maintain it no longer than 4-6 weeks. This gives the hair time to grow through its cycle and it’s ready then for the next wax. If you leave you waxing longer than 6 weeks the hair becomes to long and it’s like having your first wax all over again, by maintaining it it means the hairs are shorter not as course and easier to get out thus making your waxing experience more pleasant and comfortable!
There are many different techniques used when waxing and if these techniques are not performed properly it can be a very uncomfortable and unpleasant experience resulting in red irritated skin, bruising or friction burns to name but a few. To prevent this from happening the therapist should be highly skilled and professional with her approach to all types of waxing.
Waxing trends have become very popular in the last 10 years! Most of us know what trends are out there from celebrity’s, magazines and the Internet….. Here are some of the trends that occur at preset:
This is a modest bikini wax, most suitable for Bridget Jones” underwear!
This is a tighter wax, more suitable for high cut underwear or swimwear.
The In Betweeny/Californian
Not quite a Brazilian, leaves some hair on the lips/labia. Hair is also removed from the bum. Suitable for G-string underwear.
Classic Brazilian wax, leaving a landing strip or a small triangle of hair on the front of bikini line. All the hair underneath on the lips/labia and bum is removed.
Totally bare! All the pubic hair is removed.
So early on in the summer I joined the Eternal Flair team and Sarah decided to take on the best wax in the industry (in my opinion) WAXPERTS WAX!!!!!!!! Waxperts wax is amazing…..it has fantastic pre and after care products to make your waxing experience a lot more comfortable. After a cleanse we apply a pre wax oil to the skin which stops the wax from sticking to the the skin it only sticks to the hair so it’s more comfortable for the client when being removed and causes very little erythema (redness) to the skin. Then we cool the skin down with another oil called cleanse and then we apply our after wax oil which helps sooth and calm the area down as its main ingredients are lavender (soothing and calming) and camomile (antiseptic and disinfectant) so this leaves the skin very soft and not at all sticky!
